Katselas Theatre Changes Name to Skylight Theatre Company

By:

The celebrated Katselas Theatre Company today becomes Skylight Theatre Company. This is the first of many changes this award-winning theatre company will be implementing over the next few months as it shifts its focus towards curating, developing and producing new works - written exclusively by Los Angeles writers.

Building on its current in-house writers programs, including Playlab, UnAuthorized (ages 18-25), SoloMojo (one-person show workshop), and the highly respected INKubator series, Skylight Theatre Company is committed to drawing from LA's enormous pool of stage, film, and television talent to enhance its readings, talkbacks, and Main Stage productions.

"We're changing our name to Skylight Theatre Company to better reflect who we have become over the years. Our core mission is to offer writers a home to refine their work under the guidance of seasoned directors and producers - giving birth to never before seen works," says Producing Artistic Director Gary Grossman

Gary Grossman (Producer/Artistic Director) started his career in New York at The Public Theatre, Café La Mama, and Sheraton Square Playhouse. He has produced over 300 stage plays, including close to 100 world premieres. Among his celebrated productions are Romeo and Juliet directed by Milton Katselas (3 LADCC Awards), Dylan (3 LADCC Awards), Dream Man, Lone Star, Balm In Gilead, Four, The Tenth Man, Visions and Lovers, Rabbit Hole, La Ronde De Lunch, Influence, and Mad Women. In addition to his work for the Skylight Theatre Company (formerly KTC), Gary has produced for the prestigious Matrix Theatre Company, where he was associated with the celebrated productions The Homecoming, Endgame, and The Seagull. For television he co-produced Sadie and Son (CBS) and the sitcom pilot Man In The Kitchen (ABC). He is the Executive Producer for award-winning director Chuck Workman's documentary, The Actor's Life.

SKYLIGHT THEATRE COMPANY (formerly Katselas Theatre Company) is nationally respected for its history of developing artists (writers, actors, musicians, designers, and directors) while helping to create the next generation of theatregoers.

In just the last two years, Skylight Theatre Company has produced 12 World Premiere productions including INFLUENCE (2010 Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle nomination for Best Actor and two LA Weekly nominations for Best Play and Best Production), HERMETICALLY SEALED (2011 Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle nomination for Best Actress, an LA Weekly nomination and LA Weekly Award for Best Ensemble and the LA Times list of Top Ten productions for 2011), and MAD WOMAN (2011 Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle nomination and LA Weekly Award for Best Solo Performance). Skylight is committed to originating and developing new works that speak to audiences of all ages.

SKYLIGHT THEATRE COMPANY launches productions at the Skylight Theatre Complex, 1816 ½ North Vermont LA, CA and at Beverly Hills Playhouse located at 254 South Robertson Blvd. Beverly Hills, Calif. More information at skylighttheatrecompany.com.
