Kantor Gallery's Stuff Of Legends Closes

By:

"Stuff of Legends", presented by Kantor Gallery and Madison Gallery, opens a satellite exhibition of paintings and installations by artist Elijah Blue. "Stuff of Legends" follows the success of Blue's sold out inaugural exhibition "Step-and-Repeat "at Kantor Gallery, with the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art acquiring the final piece.

"Stuff of Legends" and "Step-and-Repeat" are both commentaries on the unholy marriage of celebrity and commerce, with artist Elijah Blue taking a traditionally unaesthetic, completely commercial medium of the step and repeat backdrop found on red carpets, and making it his own. "Stuff of Legends" is a further abstraction and smaller study, on the nuances of the first series of paintings in "Step-and Repeat".

Blue states that the seemingly innocuous walls are a commentary on "the contemporary celebrity condition, its arc over the last 50 years, and the cheapening of fame." Growing up in a Los Angeles fishbowl, Blue is uniquely qualified to engage in such droll artistic discourse, while he is essentially making light of the "current celebrity condition" as an Orwellian device. It's his simultaneous engagement with, and disassociation from the topic that ultimately makes the work honest and impactful. With Madison and Malibu being the backdrop of Blue's satellite show, this sentiment has been strategically orchestrated by the artist and irony will be on display.

This summer Madison Gallery will premiere its contemporary art gallery with artist Elijah Blue, in conjunction Kantor Gallery, the longstanding hub of contemporary art in Los Angeles.
