Broadway Veteran Jesse Nager (MOTOWN, MARY POPPINS, MAMMA MIA, SCANDALOUS, GOOD VIBRATIONS, XANADU) has been nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award for his portrayal of Smokey Robinson in MOTOWN:The Musical.

Nager has played the role of Smokey Robinson both on Broadway in NYC and across the country. He has received rave reviews in nearly every city he's performed in.

Nager began working toward a theatrical career when he was attending Laguardia High School in Manhattan. He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance in 2003. He made his Broadway debut in the musical MAMMA MIA in 2004. He later went on to appear in GOOD VIBRATIONS (2005 original cast), MARY POPPINS (2006 original cast), SCANDALOUS (2012 original cast), and MOTOWN (2013 original cast).

He has also performed in several Theater Productions, including Fame on 42nd Street, Once on this Island, Stephen Sondheim's Being Alive (directed by Billy Porter), and A Little Princess. He has also participated in workshops for musicals such as Rocky The Musical, Leap of Faith, Aladdin, and The Broadway Boys: Live In Concert.

In the past, Jesse has performed with Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Jason Mraz, Debbie Gibson and Patti LaBelle. He is a member of the Broadway Inspirational Voices. In addition to his Broadway career, Nager is also the creator and Artistic Director of The Broadway Boys (www.bwayboys.com): A musical touring show that last year performed over 80 concerts across the United States and Europe.

The NAACP Theatre Awards are a NAACP member voted awards started in 1991 and presented annually by the Beverly Hills-Hollywood branch of the NAACP to honor outstanding people of color in theatre. The ceremonies usually take place in the Los Angeles area following the presentation ceremonies of the NAACP Image Awards. There are also honorary awards: the President's Award, the Trailblazer Award, the Spirit Award, the Community Service Award and The Lifetime Achievement Award.

MOTOWN: The Musical has been nominated for a total of 11 awards at this years NAACP Theatre Awards. The ceremony is being held on Nov 21st at the Historic Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, CA.
