Born in the Bronx New York, Jan Abrams' singing talent was influenced by her father and two uncles who were all piano tuners with an exceptional pitch and an affinity for the Great American Songbook. One of her uncles, Victor Abrams, was a songwriter whose songs were recorded by Dinah Washington, Dean Martin, Sarah Vaughn, and Nat King Cole. Listening to the three sing in beautiful three part harmonies propelled Jan into wanting to become a singer at an early age, seeing every Broadway show and learning every song from their scores. After moving to Manhattan, Jan began singing in clubs such as Scene One, The Duplex, The Grand Finale, Freddy's Supper Club, Panache, Don't Tell Mama, and Eighty-Eight's, felling in love with the intimacy of the cabaret art form.

In 1998, Jan moved to Los Angeles and married but continued to perform cabaret at The Cinegrill at The Roosevelt Hotel, and at The Gardenia. Her current show is autobiographical and entitled "On My Way To You", which is taken from her CD "Rainbow Wings". It has garnered rave reviews which may be read on her website at www.janabrams.com and takes the audience on a journey from the Bronx to Manhattan to Los Angeles as she follows her dreams of becoming a singer and finding "Mr. Right.

Besides her steady cabaret performances, Jan has developed musical programs for senior audiences and brought this genre of music to senior centers, retirement communities, and Alzheimer facilities and discovered how it can be healing and therapeutic and the impetus to pursue a career in music therapy.

Accompanying Jan on the piano is musical director; John Randall who is no stranger to the Desert, having played here for Shirley Jones, Patrick Cassidy, Sean McDermott and more which you can see at his website www.musicbyjohnrandall.com. Show time on Saturday, September 25th is 7 PM with box office opening at 6 PM. Tickets are $10 cash at the door or in advance on line at www.brownpapertickets.com.
