Swords clash with fiery sparks as Artistic Directors August Viverito and T L Kolman announce the Los Angeles premiere of a new, under two-hour incarnation of Shakespeare's HENRY VI, Part I directed by Chicago phenomenon Christopher William Johnson, with stunning fight choreography by Jennifer Albert. This majestic spectacle opens October 5th for a six week run at the company's The Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave., Hollywood, Calif.

The Pageantry of live medieval music sounds as we enter the funeral of Henry V; father of the boy King. Henry VI, Part I is Shakespeare at his sword-fighting, corrupt government best. Shakespeare in love and at war. Joan of Arc, Charles the Dauphin of France, Henry the boy-king and his captured Queen Margaret all embroiled in the kindling of The Wars of the Roses! Director Christopher Johnson and his fight choreographer Jennifer Albert lead an outsanding cast to breathe new life and vitality into one of the least produced, but highly exciting plays in the Shakespeare cannon. The production will use Edwardian costumes and other out-of-time elements to illustrate the cast system from which the play unfurls. Major battles bristle with astounding skill as drums sound and chants erupt from The Players. The battles that made Joan of Arc and Charles the Dauphin of France infamous take on new life as we look at Joan through the eyes of her detractors: as a true witch.

The cast is beautifully up to the challenge and features some of the best trained and most highly skilled actors proficient in both Shakespeare and weaponry. Included are Eva Bloomfield, Tiffany Cole, Christopher Carver, Allen Darby, Alex Elliott-Funk, Synden Healy, Kyle Hester, Charles M. Howell IV, Eric Rollins, Taylor Jackson Ross, Tina Van Berckelaer, Matt Van Curen, JB Waterman , and Johnny Patrick Yoder.

Truly, this is a remarkable production which burns with passion and majesty. You can expect something quite unlike a standard version of this work.

HENRY VI, PART I, written by William Shakespeare and directed by Christopher Johnson, plays October 5 through November 10, 2012, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 3 PM. Note: there is no performance Sunday, September 7th.
