FREE Readings of New Plays - BOTANICUM SEEDLINGS at Theatricum Botanicum

By:

Botanicum Seedlings: A Development Series for Playwrights - This summer, Theatricum's Botanicum Seedlings celebrates its 15th anniversary with readings of two new plays about families dealing with contemporary issues that hit home in unexpected ways. Admission is free.

Sunday, August 21 at 11 a.m.: Bury Me by Brynne Frauenhoffer, directed by Miranda Stewart. The working class town of Pacific, Missouri is the setting for this story of unplanned consequences, where seemingly random events reveal very different perspectives of faith, destiny, life choices and women's bodies as battle-grounds.

Sunday, August 28 at 11 a.m.: Still Life by Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich, directed by Jen Bloom. A darkly comic look at shared grief. Three people become inextricably linked after a series of subway bombings in an unnamed city, each searching for snapshots of normal to hang onto during the surreal, suspended days following a tragedy.

Brynne Frauenhoffer is a recent graduate from the University of Oklahoma, now living in Chicago. Her play Synchronicity will soon be workshopped at Salt Lake Acting Company; she is currently developing an adaptation of Jane Eyre for Adapt Theatre Company, and will have a play in the Snapshots 10-Minute Play Festival at 20% Theatre Company Chicago.

Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich is a Boston-based playwright with full-lengths produced at theaters including Northern Light (upcoming), Trustus & Trinity Rep; developed in NYC at Playwrights Horizons & Second Stage and regionally at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Geva & Victory Gardens, among others. Still Life is on the Kilroys List and a Susan Smith Blackburn Award nominee.

Director Miranda Stewart has staged productions in Los Angeles for Green Light Productions, Acting Out INK Fest, LOFT Ensemble & the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Director Jen Bloom is co-founder of Santa Monica Rep and currently on faculty at AMDA College. LA credits include Chalk Rep, Playwrights Union & site-specific theatrical events around town.
