Dudamel & the LA Phil Perform with Lang Lang, Gil Shaham, Pinchas Zukerman at Hollywood Bowl
By: Lauren Wolman
WHAT: Music Director Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in performances featuring internationally acclaimed soloists Lang Lang (July 12 & July 14), Gil Shaham (July 19), and Pinchas Zukerman (July 21) and a concert version of Puccini's Turandot (July 17) to launch the 2011 Classical Series at the Hollywood Bowl.
On July 12 and July 14, Dudamel and the LA Phil are joined by world-renowned pianist Lang Lang for Prokofiev's popular Piano Concerto No. 3. The evening also includes a performance of Ravel's orchestration of Mussorgsky's thrilling Pictures at an Exhibition. Dudamel leads the concert production of Puccini's Turandot on July 17 with the LA Phil, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Los AngeLes Children's Chorus, and soloists featuring soprano Christine Brewer. The opera's magnificent portrayal of a legendary princess in China features some of the most beloved arias of all time, including "Nessun dorma" and "In questa reggia." On July 19, in an all-Mozart evening, Dudamel and the LA Phil are joined by virtuoso violinist Gil Shaham in a program of Mozart's Overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio, Violin Concerto No. 5, and Symphony No. 41, "Jupiter."Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 8:00 PM

* The I-405 freeway between I-10 and U.S. 101 will be closed during the weekend of July 16-17. Traffic congestion may be severe. Patrons visiting the Hollywood Bowl should avoid the vicinity of the closure and expect delays near the Hollywood Bowl (due to detours). Detailed information can be found at Metro.net/405. All Bowl Park & Ride buses will leave at their scheduled departure times, but may arrive at the Bowl later than usual due to the I-405 closure. Choosing an early departure time, purchasing your P&R tickets in advance and arriving at the lot well ahead of your scheduled departure is highly recommended.
