Cornerstone Theater Announces Concert Reading of MAGIC FRUIT

By:
Cornerstone Theater Announces Concert Reading of MAGIC FRUIT ImageCornerstone Theater Company is pleased to present Magic Fruit, written by Michael John Garcés as the Hunger Bridge Show. Magic Fruit will unite previous communities of Cornerstone's Hunger Cycle for a ninth and final production. Over six years, Cornerstone presented nine world premiere plays that explored the relationship to the most elemental of needs - hunger.

The plays looked at food equity, urban and rural farming, food addiction, community gardens and many other issues. In Magic Fruit, connections are formed to tell a larger story, engaging all communities from the Hunger Cycle project. In this culminating work, community participants grapple with complicated questions of hunger in an apocalyptic and frighteningly familiar Los Angeles.

The Magic Fruit performance at Grand Performances on July 9 will be a special concert reading with the full play set to premiere on November 18, 2017 at the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles.

Sunday, July 9, 2017, Performance: 7 p.m.. Grand Performances, 350 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles 90071 (at California Plaza. TICKETS: Free to all

Cornerstone Theater Company has been making new plays with and about communities throughout Los Angeles and beyond for over 30 years. Nationally recognized as a leader in community engaged theater, our plays celebrate many voices as we strive to include people who have not been on stage or even seen theater. Combining the artistry of people with many levels of theatrical experience, we act upon the conviction that artistic expression is civic engagement and that access to a creative forum is essential to the wellness and health of every individual and community. Our plays are staged in theaters, parking lots, factories, schools and subway stations. Each venue is specific to its project and community; audiences pay what they can so our performances are always accessible to all.
