Company of Angels Takes Up Residency at Legacy L.A in Boyle Heights

By:
Los Angeles's oldest non-profit repertory theater, Company of Angels (CoA) is now in residence at Legacy LA in the Hazard Park Armory in Boyle Heights. CoA's new theater black box space inside the Armory will allow CoA to deepen their work with the residents of Boyle Heights and adjacent Ramona Gardens Housing Project. Executive Director of Legacy LA Lou Calanche said "We are excited to partner with CoA since cultural, artistic and performance-based opportunities are critically important in the development of youth as it provides a vehicle for expression, leadership and confidence building opportunities."

"All of us at CoA are thrilled to be joining forces with Legacy LA to serve the residents of Boyle Heights as well as our work with the youth at Legacy LA and where CoA can continue the work of with emerging and established LA based artists, as well as continue our work with low-income residents of East LA and downtown and our ongoing work with Legacy LA youth later on in the year." said Artistic Director of CoA Armando Molina.

ABOUT COMPANY OF ANGELS
At Company of Angels we want to infuse the American theater canon with specific stories of the underrepresented communities who will soon make-up a majority of the nation's population. In addition to creating a theater that more accurately depicts the City and nation where we live, new voices from these under-represented communities provide yet another prism through which to explore the human experience. If we provide a space for these voices we have an opportunity to animate and excite American theater, enrich its aesthetic and thereby expand our reach to a more diverse audience.

ABOUT LEGACY LA

Founded in 2007, Legacy LA is a community based non-profit organization focused on youth development in Boyle Heights. Our mission is to make positive interventions in the lives of young people by offering alternatives to gangs and violence. We build youth's capacity to reach their full potential and equip them with the tools to transform their lives and their community.
