Chromolume Theatre Announces 2018 Season of Musicals Image

The Chromolume Theatre at The Attic in Los Angeles has announced a season of musicals for 2018, kicking off in February with the off-Broadway hit Dessa Rose by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, followed in July by Jane Eyre (book and additional lyrics by John Caird with music & lyrics by Paul Gordon), and concluding with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion, opening in November.

Dessa Rose is based on the book of the same name by Sherley Anne Williams (1986). The show received its New York premiere at Lincoln Center in 2005. With book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, it tells the story of a young black woman (a runaway slave) and a young white woman (an abandoned mother) and their journey to acceptance in the antebellum South, as they tell their story to their grandchildren. Directed by James Esposito, Dessa Rose will open February 2, 2018 and run through February 25.

Jane Eyre is based on Charlotte Bontë's classic novel. The romantic tale of secrets and the lies that secrets create, reminds us what it is to fall truly and completely in love. With book and additional lyrics by John Caird and music & lyrics by Paul Gordon, the show opened on Broadway in late 2000 and was nominated for six Tony Awards in 2001, including Best Musical. Directed by Lauren J. Peters, Jane Eyre will run from July 13-August 5.

Passion is a one-act musical adapted from Ettore Scola's film Passione d'Amore, itself adapted from the novel "Fosca" by Iginio Ugo Tarchetti. Set in Risorgimento-era Italy, the plot concerns a young soldier and the changes in him brought about by his obsessive love of Fosca, his Colonel's homely, ailing cousin. Passion is notable for being one of the few projects that Stephen Sondheim himself conceived (along with Sweeney Todd and Road Show). After opening on Broadway in 1994, it was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, winning four, including Best Musical. With music and lyrics by Sondheim and book by James Lapine, Passion will be directed by Joshua Finkel. Passion is set to run November 2-25.

Season tickets are $60 (three shows for the price of two), and single tickets are $30 each. They are on sale now and may be purchased online at www.crtheatre.com or by calling (323) 205-1617. The Chromolume Theatre at The Attic is located at 5429 W. Washington Boulevard (between the 10 freeway and Hauser Boulevard) in Los Angeles, 90016.
