BMI Celebrates The Composers Featured At The Future Is Female Concert

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), the global leader in rights management, is a proud co-sponsor of the 2nd Annual Future Is Female Concert presented by KCRW in association with Live Nation & The Alliance for Women Composers. This incredible night will highlight the musical works of twelve outstanding women composers, eight of which are BMI affiliates, including Tangelene Bolton ("Jem and Holograms"), Cindy O'Connor ("Once Upon a Time"), Tori Letzler ("Vikings"), Heather McIntosh ("Z for Zachariah"), Perrine Virgile-Piekarski ("Counterpart"), Jessie Weiss ("Liza on Demand"), Ronit Kirchman ("The Sinner"), and ASKA ("Skate Kitchen").

"The Future Is Female concert is an event that BMI is thrilled to support," said Doreen Ringer-Ross, BMI Vice President Creative- Film, TV & Visual Media. "We are in a time when women composers are not always recognized in this community, but the tides are turning. This concert celebrates a group of outstanding female composers, giving them a targeted platform to showcase their incredible musical works. BMI prides itself on being inclusive and strives to partner with like-minded organizations who provide opportunities, such as this concert, to our affiliated composers."

Concert producer and BMI composer, Tori Letzler commented, "My goal was to create a platform to aid in the visibility of working female composers because I was frustrated with the lack of representation I saw from similar live events. I want our industry to recognize that there are tons of female composers working tirelessly day in and day out, and we would like to be treated as equals for the equal work we do."

The Future Is Female concert will celebrate and recognize the top female composers, who will perform original music as a tribute to Maestras around the world. The concert will take place at the historic Wiltern Theatre on Tuesday, September 4th, at 7pm. For tickets and additional information click here.

Celebrating over 77 years of service to songwriters, composers, music publishers and businesses, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) is a global leader in music rights management, serving as an advocate for the value of music. BMI represents the public performance rights in nearly 13 million musical works created and owned by more than 800,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers. The Company negotiates music license agreements and distributes the fees it generates as royalties to its affiliated writers and publishers when their songs are performed in public. In 1939, BMI created a groundbreaking open-door policy becoming the only performing rights organization to welcome and represent the creators of blues, jazz, country, and American roots music. Today, the musical compositions in BMI's repertoire, from chart toppers to perennial favorites, span all genres of music and are consistently among the most-performed hits of the year.
