BAKERSFIELD MIST Extends Again At The Fountain Theatre Thru 10/16

By:

The Fountain Theatre has extended its critically acclaimed West Coast premiere of Bakersfield Mist for a second time, through October 16.

Bakersfield Mist stars husband-and-wife actors Jenny O'Hara and Nick Ullett in a lively comedy, inspired by true events, which was written and directed by Fountain co-artistic director Stephen Sachs. Maude Gutman, an unemployed, chain-smoking ex-bartender living in a run down California trailer park, believes the painting she bought in a thrift store for $3 is really an undiscovered masterpiece worth millions. When stuffy New York art expert Lionel Percy arrives to evaluate the work, a fiery battle erupts over class, truth, value, and the meaning of art.

Audiences and critics can't get enough of Bakersfield Mist. "It's still selling out and for good reason!," raves L.A. Theater Examiner Candyce Columbus. Just posted on BroadwayWorld: "Great writing, great acting, great direction! 5 out of 5 stars!" A "Critic's Choice" in the LA Times, "Critic's Pick" in Back Stage, and a "GO!" in the LA Weekly, the Long Beach Beachcomber agrees, "This show is not to be missed." Harvey Perr of Stage and Cinema promises, "Take my word for it-you're going to have a great time."

The Fountain Theatre production of Bakersfield Mist is supported in part by the National New Play Network's flagship program, the Continued Life of New Plays Fund, which is a cooperative venture designed to ensure that new plays see future productions beyond the initial world premiere. Partnerships of three theaters receive funds in support of multiple productions of the same new play. Following the world premiere production at The Fountain, Bakersfield Mist is already slated for three other productions across the country including at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre in Wellfleet, MA (opening this week); New Repertory Theatre in Waterford, MA; and the Invisible Theatre in Tucson, AZ.

Performances of Bakersfield Mist continue Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays @ 8 pm and Sundays @ 2 pm through October 16. There will be one Saturday matinee, on August 27 at 2 pm. All tickets are $30. On Thursdays and Fridays only, students with ID are $20 and seniors are $25.

The Fountain Theatre is located at 5060 Fountain Avenue (at Normandie) in Los Angeles. Secure, on-site parking is available for $5.00. The Fountain Theatre is air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible. For reservations and information, call (323) 663-1525 or go to www.FountainTheatre.com.
