Amanda McBroom to Bring VOICES to Catalina Jazz

By:
Amanda McBroom to Bring VOICES to Catalina Jazz ImageAmanda McBroom brings her new show, VOICES, to Catalina Jazz in Hollywood on June 30th for one show, celebrating the release of her new recording, VOICES, on Gecko Records.

A singer-songwriter and concert artist, Amanda McBroom is the composer of the iconic pop hit, "The Rose," the mega-hit recorded by Bette Midler for the 1979 film of the same name, about a Janis Joplin-esque character. McBroom has been called "...an urban poet who writes like an angel and has a voice to match."

The title of the new CD, VOICES, is based on one of McBroom's songs, VOICES THAT COME THROUGH THE WALL (Amanda McBroom, GorDon Hunt, Rand Bishop). McBroom will be accompanied by her Musical Director and frequent writing partner, Michele Brourman, and The Amazing Her Band, Stephan Oberhoff and Larry Tuttle.

Many of the selections in the show are story songs of love and loss and laughter, some with both music and lyrics by McBroom and several with collaborators. VOICES features music by composer Julie Gold, Tom Paxton and Livingston/Webster.

McBroom has been composing music since her teens, but was primarily an actress until her songwriting and concert careers were launched by her Golden Globe win for "The Rose" and her performances at the Globes, the Grammys and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Since then, McBroom has appeared all over the world, including at The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. Her music has been recorded for TV and films, and by a wide variety of talent including Kurt Cobain, Judy Collins, Jack Black and Amy Poehler, Betty Buckley, Barbara Cook and The Manhattan Transfer.

Catalina Jazz is at 6725 Sunset at McCadden. Parking lot on McCadden north of Sunset. Call 323.466.2210 for reservations.
