Musical Theatre Guild, the winner of the Los Angles Drama Critic's Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in the theatre, has announced an eclectic quintet of shows to celebrate its fifteenth season of Broadway in Concert musicals.

The company of professional performers, who present concert-staged readings of seldom seen musicals, will stage five productions in two locations beginning in September, 2010. Their 2010-2011 season will include: 70, GIRLS, 70; HELLO AGAIN; ONE TOUCH OF VENUS; LITTLE ME and BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL.

THE MUSICAL THEATRE GUILD 2010-2011 SEASON:

70, GIRLS, 70
Music by John Kander, Lyrics by Fred Ebb, Book by Fred Ebb & Norman L. Martin
Based on the Play "Breath of Spring" by Peter Coke, Adaptation by Joe Masteroff

70, GIRLS, 70 is ostensibly about the residents of a senior citizens' hotel who become shoplifters to buy the building before it is sold to developers. What it really is about is staying alive and enjoying every minute. Like their CHICAGO and CABARET, the story is a frame to hold Kander & Ebb's winning honky-tonk vaudeville score. If you don't come into the theatre humming "Coffee in a Cardboard Cup", "Home" or "Broadway My Street", you will when you leave... joyfully! 40th Anniversary Production!
Monday, September 20, 2010 - 7:30 PM - Alex Theatre Glendale
Sunday, September 26, 2010 - 3:00 PM - Scherr Forum, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza

HELLO AGAIN
Music, Lyrics & Book by Michael John LaChiusa
Suggested by the Play "La Ronde" by Arthur Schnitzer

Using "La Ronde's" famous circular structure, HELLO AGAIN is a series of ten love affairs and romantic encounters among ten characters during ten decades of the 20th century. Given the wide range of characters (from streetwalker to nurse, soldier to senator) and the extended time period, LaChiusa can use a variety of musical styles to deliver some of the most soul-searching moments in contemporary musical theatre. HELLO AGAIN received numerous 1994 Off-Broadway "Best Musical" nominations.

Monday, November 8, 2010 - 7:30 PM - Alex Theatre, Glendale

ONE TOUCH OF VENUS
Music by Kurt Weill, Lyrics by Ogden Nash, Book by S.J. Perlman & Ogden Nash
Based on "The Tinted Venus" by Thomas Anstey Guthrie

With a book by two of America's most gifted humorists, ONE TOUCH OF VENUS features Kurt Weill's most lovely score ("Speak Low","That's Him","I'm a Stranger Here Myself"). Little seen despite its 567 performance Broadway run, the show improbably tells of a Grecian statue coming to life and becoming involved with a modern day barber. After Marlene Dietrich backed out during rehearsals (calling the show "too sexy and profane"), VENUS established Mary Martin as a true Broadway star.

Monday, February 7, 2011 - 7:30 PM - Alex Theatre, Glendale
Sunday, February 13, 2011 - 3:00 PM - Scherr Forum, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza
LITTLE ME
Music by Cy Coleman, Lyrics by Carolyn Lee, Book by Neil Simon
Based on the novel by Patrick Dennis

This musical burlesque chronicles the rise of the optimistic, yet spectacularly accident-prone, Belle Poitrine (born Schlumpfert) in her quest for "wealth, culture & social position"... and the hand of the high-born Noble Eggleston. The zesty Cy Coleman score features "The Other Side of the Tracks", "I've Got Your Number", "Real Live Girl" and "Here's To Us". With a riotous book by Neil Simon, LITTLE ME has had 3 Broadway incarnations, the first with Sid Caesar, the most recent with Martin Short, as Noble.

Monday, April 18, 2011 - 7:30 PM - Alex Theatre, Glendale

BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL
Music & Lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe, Story & Book by Keythe Farley & Brian Flemming
Licensed under agreement with WEEKLY WORLD NEWS

Using virtually every style of music - country, gospel, pop, rock, tango, opera and show - BAT BOY tells the engrossing story of a half-boy, half-bat found in a cave who learns to speak and gains a family, romance and a home... until society takes it all away. The message: "Don't Deny Your Beast Inside". Created in Los Angeles in 1997, this remarkable entertainment was recognized as "Best New Off-Broadway Musical" by the 2001 Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle Awards. 10th Off-Broadway Anniversary!
