Position Summary
Music Theatre of Connecticut seeks a sound designer to design, program, and run sound for our production of 9 TO 5: The Musical. The sound designer will collaborate with the director, musical director, and production team to develop effective sound design and will be responsible for operating sound during tech rehearsals and all performances.
Responsibilities
• Design and implement sound system setup for 9 TO 5
• Create and program audio cues, playback, and effects as needed for the show
• Attend technical rehearsals and sitzprobe with band to refine sound balance
• Run sound live for all performances (12 total)
• Work with production team on any sound‑related needs throughout rehearsals and performances
Performance Schedule
• 9 TO 5: The Musical runs April 17 – May 3, 2026
• Performances: Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 2 pm and 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm
Required Attendance
The following production dates are mandatory:
• April 9 – Thurs – 5 pm to 10 pm – Theatre Designer Run
• April 10 – Fri – 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm – Sitzprobe with Band
• April 11 – Sat – 12:30 pm to 10:30 pm – Tech
• April 12 – Sun – 12:30 pm to 10:30 pm – Tech
• April 14 – Tues – 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm – Tech/Dress
• April 15 – Wed – 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm – Tech/Dress with Band
• April 16 – Thurs – 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm – Tech/Dress with Band
• ALL PERFORMANCES
Qualifications
• Experience designing sound for theatrical productions, ideally musicals
• Proficiency with sound consoles, playback systems (e.g., QLab or similar), mic systems, and speaker setup
• Ability to work collaboratively with directors and production staff
• Strong organizational skills and responsiveness in a fast‑paced rehearsal environment
