An old man from a retirement home, Kris Kringle, gets a job as Macy's Santa. He spreads goodwill by referring parents to other stores to find the exact toy their child wants. Macy's vocational counselor sees Kris as delusional and dangerous and tries to have him committed to Bellevue Psych Hospital. At his competency hearing, in a dramatic turn of events, Kris is found to be the true Santa, allowing countless children to experience the joy of childhood fantasy.
