A repertoire entirely devoted to Shakespeare, an all-male company founded 18 years ago, a Director, Edward Hall, which is a melting pot of ideas: these are the ingredients that give the shows of the Propeller a global success and the sympathy of the audience. This year are Small with two performances: The Taming of the Shrew (La bisbetica domata) and Twelfth Night (twelfth night).
Misunderstandings, disguises, loves, chases, male-female conflict are fundamental ingredients of these two Shakespearean comedies in which the truth is never what it seems.
The two titles are not combined: the lobby wanted to stage a text dating from the early life of Shakespeare (the taming of the Shrew) and one high school (twelfth night), representing the evolution of English writer. Both comedies look magnificently how to be in love with the wrong person reveal the authentic feeling, when Shakespeare invites us to examine what kinds of happiness.
The company gives ample space to the physicality, explains the Director, with "the desire to rediscover Shakespeare, prepared for the pièces with clarity, rapidity and with all the imagination that you can use in the theatre". The stage always a tool someone plays, actors are the engine of the play, moving scenes, sing, invade the audience, in a groundbreaking but in the wake of an ancient tradition. "Milan has one of the richest European theatrical traditions," says Edward Hall. "So it is an honour for us to go on stage at the Teatro Strehler. The small is always the point of excellence of the Propeller. We can't wait to get back to the actual performance for an audience that loves us so much. "
