The Odyssey of Homer is an emblematic work which represents a formidable the irrepressible need of man to know and its relentless journey in search of the roots of his own existence. Robert Wilson creates a theatrical version of this extraordinary epic, with its unique ability to penetrate deeply into the text, bring to light new meanings, revealing so magical aspects most surprising, unexpected elements and combining the fantastic plan continuously and that of reality.
For this new job, Wilson chose the latest English poet Simon Armitage that the Guardian has called "fast, furious and fun".
Wilson also signed the scenography and lights (in collaboration with Stephanie Engeln and Scott Bolman); the costumes are entrusted to Yashi Tabassomi, while Hal Willner oversees the music, performed live. An ensemble of seventeen Greek actors alternating in different roles in the course of the show. Project Odyssey's interest lies in look absolutely contemporary with whom Wilson approaches to the Homeric poem. Through the theatre, establishing connections between the ancient and the modern, giving a new interpretation to the eternal theme of the struggle of the human species to survive and improve their condition in a world that is now fully explored, feel paradoxically unknown in ever-changing complexity.
