'The gold of Naples' on stage May 4th - 16th 2010 at Teatro Argentina.
Based on a work by Giuseppe Marotta. Adapted by Armando Pugliese and Gianfelice Imparato. Directed by Armando Pugliese. With Gianfelice Imparato, Luisa Ranieri, Valerio Santoro.
Original music by Nicola Piovani
Set design by Andrea Taddei
Costume design by Silvia Polidori
Armando Pugliese and Gianfelice Imparato start from the "theatricality" of Marotta, from that myriad of characters and situations that, like in the "Mappata" by Salvatore di Giacomo where the poor are all wrapped in one sheet, for a version of The Gold of Naples in which stories, painful and comical, tragic and paradoxical are found in one of those buildings which abound in the historical centre of Naples.
Therefore, this version will not be an imitation of De Sica's film, but a completely new take of his stories, of which some are present in the film, and others are completely unedited as far as performances are concerned and taken directly from Marotta's writings.
