‘The Quare Land', by Cavan playwright John McManus and starring legendary Des Keogh, received its world premiere in Galway last summer and following its success has recently embarked on a four week tour of Ireland, coming to Roscommon Arts Centre on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th April.

Celebrated as a thrilling and sharp comedy, ‘The Quare Land' is sure to be a crowd pleaser where ever it goes. The lead role played by Des Keogh centres on the character Hugh Pugh, who is about to take his first bath in four years. His bathing is disturbed by Rob McNulty (Frank O'Sullivan), a developer wanting to buy a field. Hugh conducts negotiations from his bathtub and is reluctant to sell while McNulty pulls out all the stops to complete the sale. The quick fire banter between the two characters escalates into an epic finale as both try to reason each other into submission. TRAD MUSIC WORKSHOPS

‘The Reel Thing', Roscommon Arts Centre's traditional music programme welcomes two fantastic traditional music ho will share their expertise with students on Saturday 9th April. Michael O'Raghallaigh (concertina) and Catherine McEvoy (flute) will host separate workshops for students of the instrument with intermediate to advanced experience. The 4-hour workshops begin at 11.30am at the arts centre on Saturday 9th April, and afterwards Michael and Catherine will have an informal recital which is open to the public, beginning at 3.45pm. These workshops provide students an excellent opportunity to learn from some of the best musicians in the country. Spaces for the workshops are limited so interested parties are encouraged to call Roscommon Arts Centre's box office to reserve on 090 6625824. The workshop and recital admittance is €30. Members of the public are welcome to come to the recital, tickets just €10.

LOCAL STUDENTS GET TO FLY HIGH

Transtion year students from Elphin Community College, together with their teacher Shane Holohan, have recently begun work on a brand new and exciting performance which will premier in Roscommon Arts centre on Wednesday 13th April. Together with Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre, one of the leading aerial dance companies in Ireland, the students will perform Taking Flight, a 30 minute aerial dance piece. This involves the students engaging in a series of workshops and training sessions that will take them through the process of developing and putting on a theatre performance. As well as dance, the students are also involved in the costume design, music and multi-media presentation of the work. Fidget Feet will double-bill with the college with their production of Hang On. Tickets for this exciting new project are just €10/€5 and are available through Roscommon Arst Centre's box office on 090 6625824. Early booking for this popular show is recommended.
