The summer holiday's are officially over and Roscommon Arts Centre are all back and ready to go with our Autumn/Winter 2017 season of events. It's another busy season here at the centre as we gear ourselves for exhibition openings, workshops, comedy camps, theatre performances, music events, our Lollipops Children's Festival and a whole lot more! Keep reading to see what's happening at Roscommon Arts Centre this Autumn!


The Award Winning 'Humours of Bandon' Award Winning Theatre
Our theatre season opens with a cracking play on Wednesday September 6th as Fishamble's award winning 'The Humours of Bandon' takes to our stage. Written by and performed by Margaret McAuliffe and directed by Stefanie Preissner, this is definitely one for the diaries! This coming of age story introduces us to Annie, who on the eve of the Irish dancing championships, leads the audience through the various success and disappointments of her Irish dancing life. This is a must see for anyone who had a childhood passion that threatened to overwhelm their life, especially anyone who spent their childhood with their hair in curlers sitting in the parish hall all set for the feis!! Conal Is Back
Roscommon audiences love a bit of Conal Gallen! So you will delighted to hear that he is back on our stage this September with his new play 'How's Your Father'. A Musical Trio Not To Be Missed

Music Network presents three of Ireland's most inventive musicians, Cathy Jordan, Mick Daly and Jarlath Henderson, in an evening of music that will introduce the audience to stunning new interpretations of well-known songs. Dervish front woman Cathy Jordan is a well known visitor to Roscommon Arts Centre as the leader of our weekly Songbirds Over 50's singing group and we are delighted to welcome her back to our stage with Mick Daly, founder member of the group 'Four Men And A Dog',
and Jarlath Henderson, winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award,

All For The Love Of Mammy

Written by Athlone playwright Margaret McKenna Mullan, this humours and touching play explores the special relationship between a mother and daughter. As alzheimers and dementia take hold, the roles become reversed as the daughter becomes the carer for her ageing mother.

The Alan Kelly Gang & Eddi Reader

We are thrilled to welcome back Alan Kelly and his gang to our stage! Alan's shows are always a sell out and with Fairground Attraction songstress Eddi Reader taking to the stage with the band, it's no surprise. Alan and Eddi will be joined on stage by Steph Geremia, Shane McGowan, Martin Brunsden and John Douglas.This evening of music will also include the debut performance by R TIME, Roscommon Traditional Irish Music Ensemble, a group of young talented musicians from the region, who have undertaken a series of intensive workshops under the guidance of Alan and Steph over the past year.

Culture Night 2017

This years Culture Night takes place on Friday 22nd September. Culture Night is a national event which sees an array of free cultural events taking place all around the country
and we've got plenty on offer here at the arts centre on the night.
Claiming Spaces: 5pm - Artist Anna Spearman will work with two primary schools to create work for this new installation which will be unveiled on the night.
Artist Talk: 6pm - Naomi Draper will discuss her latest exhibition 'Florilegium' which will be on show in the gallery.
Vocal Social: 7pm - Join us for a massive sing-along in the arts centre foyer with our 'Vocal Social Butterfly' Michele Feeney.

Enter The World Of Janey Dillis
Culture What would happen if you woke up one morning, and found yourself in the middle of a snow storm and you have no power, no heat, no phone and no food? Welcome to the world of Janey Dillis, who hasn't left her house in 25 years and you will be the first person she has met in 20 years! OCTOBER IS
LOLLIPOPS CHILDREN'S
FESTIVAL MONTH

It's Lollipops time once again at Roscommon Arts Centre and we've planned a host of events here at the arts centre for families and schools to enjoy throughout the month of October and we hope that you will come along and join us in some Lollipops fun!
With the support of Creative Ireland 2017, we are also introducing "The Wheels on the Bus" an initiative to support school/crèche groups who need to hire buses to attend Lollipops events. If you're hiring a bus, for a Lollipops show, then you're entitled to a €2 reduction on each ticket purchased.

WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES

This season we are hosting a number of classes and workshops for children and adults. For children we've got SILLY SYMPHONIES, a music programme fro ages 1 - 3 years old, the hugely popular MINECRAFT EDU workshops return this November, we've also got a comedy camp for ages 8 - 16 this Autumn, and ROSCOMMON COUNTY YOUTH THEATRE return with their weekly classes for ages 13+. For adults we are hosting a 6 week acting course FROM PAGE TO STAGE, with JULIE SHARKEY, which takes place on Wednesday evening's from 7pm - 9pm, CATHY JORDAN is back this season with our over 50's singing group THE SONGBIRDS and our over 55's dance troupe THE ELDERBERRIES will be dancing through our doors again this September with instructor CATHERINE DONNELLY.
