Nomad and Decadent Theatre Present 'The Cavalcaders' by Billy Roche at Roscommon Arts Centre, 24th - 26th October 2013

By: Oct. 21, 2013

Nomad in association with Decadent Theatre Company presents The Cavalcaders by Billy Roche on Thursday 24th - Saturday 26th October. For tickets, Book Here.

"The Cavalcaders" explores the lives and loves of a community of characters in small-town Ireland. Set in an old-fashioned cobbler's shop, this is the story of a group of men who spend their days mending shoes and their nights as a barbershop quartet and singers of local legend. Their musical harmonies, however, are not reflected in their private lives. "The Cavalcaders" is a wonderful memory play that explores the complexity of human relationships. With live music and a beautiful musical score, the play is both moving and entertaining as playwright Billy Roche examines how men relate to men and to women.

Blending music and comedy with a brutally honest depiction of betrayal, we witness the group, and particularly its leader Terry, disintegrate before our very eyes. Terry is a man who, surrounded by love and friendship, is haunted by the woman who previously betrayed him and feels unworthy of the love and affection that is heaped all around him. Rejecting it, he propels himself into a cruel and tragic affair with a vulnerable young woman who adores him. Relief comes for him in the form of "The Cavalcaders" as they meet to rehearse at night in the little shoemakers shop.
