Over 40 participating Dublin Culture Nightvenues have programmed special events to celebrate Dublin - UNESCO City of Literature, and will offer people of all ages the chance to explore the work of some of Ireland's leading writers. Here's a taster of just some of the special literary events on offer this Friday:

Literary readings will take place in traditional and unusual settings including the Trinity Long Room Hub, The Winding Stair Bookshop, Science Gallery and the Freemason's Hall while the Irish Writers Centre will have a host of readings in a selection of Dublin's literary pubs including Toners, The Duke and Teachers' Club.

People can travel for free by bus and by boat to hear stories and tales by Dublin's literary heroes. There's free travel with Dublin Bus on Route B which will have storytelling by Storytellers of Ireland; you can get on board the Spirit of the Docklands for a free literary Liffey cruise; and if you're walking by the Liffey and are passing Dublin's literary bridges- James Joyce, Sean O'Casey or Samuel Beckett- you can stop off to hear presentations of the writers' works at each bridge.

Exhibitions and demonstrations will take place at many renowned cultural venues including the Chester Beatty Library, Trinity College Library and the Central Catholic Library.

Children will have an opportunity to learn more about Dublin's literary past with a Literary Treasure Hunt in Merrion Square and young readers and authors can visit an Open Studio evening in the National Library of Ireland to experience a virtual tour of the studio of a picture book artist. With a wide variety of genres represented, Dublin will be a true literary wonderland on Culture Night.

Culture Night will also take place in the following town, cities and counties on Friday 24th September:
Dublin, Galway City, Galway County - Oughterard, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Wexford, Sligo, Mayo, Wicklow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Westmeath, Letterkenny, Kerry, Carlow, Leitrim, Roscommon, and The Gaeltacht regions. Derry and Belfast will also hold a Culture Night on Friday 24th September.
