Break-Away Project to Present IT CAME FROM MARS, April 20-28
The Break-Away Project will present a full production of the play 'It Came From Mars' by Joseph Zettelmaier. It will be performed on the 20th & 21st of April in Cleere's Theatre, Kilkenny and the 24th to 28th of April in the Pearse Centre, Dublin.
As part of our mission, the Break-Away Project work toward creating links between Irish and American artists, regularly showcasing work by American artists here in Ireland and developing showcase opportunities for Irish artists in America. In 2009 our artistic director, Helena, became familiar with the work of playwright Joseph Zettelmaier while working as a theatre apprentice at the Performance Network Theatre, Michigan. Three years later the Break-Away Project hosted their first performance, a staged reading of 'It Came From Mars'.
The Play: A comedy. It's October 30th 1938. In New York a troupe of radio actors attempt to rehearse their own show the night that Orson Welles delivers his famous War of the Worlds broadcast. The actors fly into hysterics, believing they're about to be obliterated by aliens. Honesty and hilarity ensue when the dramatic dramatists are faced with true drama. What makes this Irish production even more exciting is that playwright Joseph Zettelmaier will travel from Michigan to Dublin to attend the final weekend of performances and partake in a Q & A session on Sunday 28th April following the closing matinee performance.Cast include: Karen Davidson Perrins, Michael Heavey, Helena Byrne, Stephen Gorman, Ciarán McGlynn, Sue Barrett. Directed by Anthony Kinahan.
The Break-Away Project has launched an online campaign to fund its production of It Came From Mars. Funders can donate from anywhere in the world and receive fantastic rewards from the Break-Away Project as a thank you for their support. The campaign will run until Sunday March 24th.
