How do music schools grow and develop in Indonesia? Our music schools are not limited to teaching Western (standard) classical music, but also teaching students to reinterpret traditional music and contemporary music, based on the creativity they present. A tradition of presenting off-campus concerts to the public is something to be celebrated as a new development of any music school.
UPH Concert features new pieces by students and alumni of Pelita Harapan University Conservatory of Music, Tangerang. The freedoms of expression and improved creativity received and shown throughout their education have fostered diverse forms and styles of music, even ones that are out of the ordinary. They perform various works, from those that make use of gamelan ensemble, solo vocals, small ensembles, to electronic music. They are Budi Kristanda (“Battle Hymn of the Vigorous Warrior Part 1”), Christian Febrianto Alexander (“Venus”), Joshua Sentosa (“A.W.A.C.S.”), Kevin Ivan Renardy (“Music Study”), Hana Hosea (“My Name is Gamelan”), Muhammad Arham (“Quintet for the End of Time”), Patrick Gunawan Hartono (“Noise to Signal”), and Stevie Jonathan (“Tranquil”).
This concert is made possible through the cooperation between Komunitas Salihara and Pelita Harapan University Conservatory of Music, Tangerang.
