Stacey Kent performs at The Cabaret at the Columbia Club (121 Monument Circle, Indianapolis) tonight, June 7 and tomorrow night, June 8 at 8pm. The evenings feature tunes from her recent Blue Note release Dreamer in Concert, along with songs from her critically acclaimed musical career spanning eight best-selling albums.

A southern Indiana theatre will feature 14 local actors in the premiere of its new signature Lincoln production. The two-act musical play A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will debut at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre on Friday, June 8. Playwright Ken Jones wrote the new play into a family-friendly presentation of Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood story into a two-act musical production. A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will include an original score of ten songs with lyrics by Christine Jones and composed by Jamey Strawn.

High school vocalists from 11 states will arrive in Indianapolis on June 12 for the Great American Songbook Vocal Academy and Competition. The four-day academy and competition is sponsored by the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative. The annual endeavor is the only U.S. competition dedicated solely to the music from Broadway, Hollywood musicals and the Tin Pan Alley era of the early to mid-twentieth century.

Two performers step into the Gotta Go Spotlight by standing out with the energy and enthusiasm brought to their roles. Curry, whose version of Professor Marvel was a little quiet and sedate, delighted the audience with his animated style as the Wizard. Portraying the phony wizard with just the right amount of vulnerability and sweetness, Curry creates a very likable character.

With music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, and a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, this musical within a comedy takes a modern-day spin on musical comedies of old.

Walker Theatre Addresses 'Elephant in the Room'

In an article written by Shannon Williams published by the Indianapolis Recorder, the Walker Theatre's air conditioning system was called out as the elephant in the room. The article addressed the lack of unity and support from the African-American community towards the 85 year old legacy that is the Madame Walker Theatre Center. Today, May 4th, staff and board of the Madame Walker Theatre Center will be on site at New Orleans on the Avenue with Amos Brown from Afternoons with Amos. From 1-3p, anyone who purchases a meal from New Orleans, 10% of the proceeds will go to the Walker. Amos Brown will discuss Walker building concerns with the community and with the board of directors.
