2010 Blaine Jarrett Memorial Scholarship Recipients Announced

The Blaine Jarrett Memorial Scholarship Fund, a fund managed by Buck Creek Players, is pleased to announce its 2010 scholarship recipients. Any graduating high school senior or college freshman currently enrolled or accepted into a performing arts-related major or minor at a college or university is eligible to apply each year. These three young adults were chosen by committee based on their participation, accomplishments, and involvement in the performing arts in the Central Indiana region. All three were awarded a scholarship of $1,000 to further their studies in the fine arts at the August 1st matinee of Buck Creek Players' Playhouse Players Youth Production of Disney's Alice in Wonderland Junior.

Brittany M. Brewer

A 2010 senior from Batesville High School, Brittany will be attending Indiana University Bloomington with majors in Theatre & Drama as well as Spanish and a minor in Music. Brittany has a multi-faceted interest in theater including performance and playwriting. While at Batesville High School Brittany wrote a one act play titled What's the Matter with Pink Underwear? which was performed by the Drama Department. She has also entered Indiana Repertory Theatre's Young Playwright's in Process Competition to further develop her skills. She has performed with the Tree County Players in Greensburg, the Rural Alliance for the Arts in Batesville, and the Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Language production of Mamma Mia in Spanish. Brittany is the daughter of Ross and Darlene Brewer of Batesville.

Grant Russel

A 2010 senior from Lutheran High School, Grant will be attending Ball State University with a major in Musical Theatre Performance & Theatre Studies. His performing arts background has included participating with a variety of groups including Wayne Township Community Theater, Buck Creek Players, Lee's Theatricals, and Lutheran High School. Grant has also performed with Patootie, a troupe that travels the state to perform comedy sketches, poems, dance routines, and original music. Grant is an Eagle Scout and is the son of Danny Russel and Elke Lorenzen of Indianapolis.

Rebecca L. Whitcomb

Rebecca is a 2009 graduate of Danville High School that is currently attending the American Musical Dramatic Academy in New York City majoring in Musical Theatre Performance. Rebecca's performing arts background includes performing as Betty Rizzo in Grease at Hendricks Civic Theatre, Clara Eynsford-Hill in My Fair Lady at Footlite Musicals, and Sharpay Evans in Disney's High School Musical at Danville High School. Rebecca has been the recipient of multiple scholarships and awards including the Jean Cones Scholarship in 2009 and the Tri Kappa Fine Arts Scholarship in 2007 & 2008. Rebecca is the daughter of Jennifer Whitcomb of Danville.

Scholarship Fund

The Blaine Jarrett Memorial Scholarship Fund was started six years ago by Blaine's family and friends. The fund has since been growing steadily thanks to the contibutions of a variety of donors and various fundraising activities. The Blaine Jarrett Memorial Scholarship Fund has now reached sufficient funding to allow meaningful annual scholarships to be awarded on an on-going basis. Additional donations are still being sought and can be sent to BJMSF, 11150 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46259.
