Still Dancing brings Parkinson’s Awareness to Center Stage

Inducing hope & inspiration, the shows are scheduled for

April 11 to 13 in Delhi & Gurugram

Delhi 2025: After successful performances in Dubai, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, Movement Mantra and Third Half Theatre are bringing Still Dancing to the heart of the nation. In honor of World Parkinson’s Day, the production will take the stage in Delhi on April 11th at Little Theatre Group. The journey continues on April 12th at Excelsior American School, Gurugram, before culminating in a final show on April 13th at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre.

Dr. Vonita Singh, Movement Coach and Founder of Movement Mantra, has been a dedicated advocate for Parkinson’s awareness in the Middle East and India for over twelve years. In 2019, she produced Still Dancing – A Story of a Parkinson’s Hero to inspire hope and resilience among people with Parkinson’s (PD) and their families.  Through drama and dance, this production not only raises awareness but also serves as a crucial reminder of the growing impact of Parkinson’s.

With over 10 million people currently living with Parkinson’s worldwide—and cases expected to double within the next two decades, sparking conversations on this urgent health challenge is vital.

“Our production, which is a deeply personal, real-life journey of a PD Hero, aligns perfectly with the global theme for PD 2025 - "Empowering the Parkinson's Community: Shining a Light on Individual Journeys and Collective Strength.”, says Dr. Singh.

Award-winning writer and director Sanjeev Dixit, founder of Third Half Theatre and the creative force behind Still Dancing, reflects on the play’s powerful journey and its deep connection with audiences. "The response to the play has been truly moving," Dixit shares. "At its core, while Still Dancing highlights Parkinson’s, it is ultimately a story about family—one that feels familiar to us all. It follows their lives, their joys, and, of course, their hardships. I believe it resonates because of its simplicity and sincerity of purpose."

Bringing the production to life is the mesmerizing Kumar Sharma and the talented dance troupe Kathak Rockers, who seamlessly blend Indian classical and contemporary dance to illustrate the challenges and triumphs of living with Parkinson’s. "Movement through dance is an integral part of this family's journey—their struggles and resilience," says Kumar Sharma. "Interpreting dance as a medium for healing has been a privilege, and I’m excited to use this art form to raise awareness within the community."

United by a shared passion for the cause, Still Dancing boasts a stellar cast, including Shereen Saif, Vivek Raj Tandon, Mona Ambegaonkar, Nakul Bhalla, Amey Mehta, Bhumika Mane, Abhimanyu Gupta, and Avenav Mukherjee.

Highlighting the critical role of movement in managing Parkinson’s, Dr. Vonita Singh, Founder of Movement Mantra, explains, "People with Parkinson’s benefit immensely from physical activity, mental stimulation, and social engagement—three elements that dance naturally provides. Dance requires mindful movement, which is exactly what someone with Parkinson’s needs when their automatic motor functions are compromised. ‘Making mindful movement a mantra’ is the message we hope to leave with our audience."

Don’t miss this inspiring production! Mark your calendars—Still Dancing takes the stage in Delhi and Gurugram this April. Tickets are now available on BookMyShow.

About Movement Mantra
Founded in 2013 by Dubai based Indian classical dancer Dr. Vonita Singh, Movement Mantra is a social enterprise dedicated to improve the quality of life of individuals with mobility challenges. What started out as movement sessions with one PD ‘hero’ Gity Bazargan, has over the last 12 years grown to become the only social platform in the Middle East for the PD community. Working hand-in-hand with specialty hospitals, medical professionals and support groups, Movement Mantra plays a seminal role in building public awareness of PD across the GCC, India and increasingly around the world. Through interactive talks and workshops, the enterprise actively advocates movement as a modality to better the lives of those afflicted with Parkinson’s Disease.

Her work has made a positive difference to the lives of hundreds of PD patients and their families.  She has presented at Parkinson's awareness fora including conferences in Kuwait and India and was given the honour of being a faculty member at the International Parkinson's and Movement Disorder Society in 2017.  In January 2023, Vonita was invited as a guest speaker at the NYU Abu Dhabi campus to present her experiences as a creative movement practitioner.  She inspired the award-winning documentary ‘Ranapakhara’ by Arab Film Studio (2017) which won several international awards including best documentary in the Mosaic World Film Festival 2018, received the ‘Splash Heart of Gold’ award in 2015 and the ‘1000 Faces of Asia’ award in 2020.  Her work has continued apace even during the pandemic as Movement Mantra moved sessions online allowing them to expand their reach even further.
