On Independence Day, this year a new promising play is coming to the theaters in Mumbai. Ek Haan directed by Randhir Ranjan Roy, has a stellar star cast and that is the first thing that strikes you about the upcoming play. Seasoned actor and TV host Shekhar Suman is seen alongside Bollywood actor Suchitra Krishnamoorti.

But if you thought that the strong star cast is the most striking feature of the play, then wait tyo hear more. The play is based on the life and times of the renowned writer Saadat Hasan Manto. The play intricately weaves the stories between the life of the controversial writer of his time and the socio political atmosphere prevailing around that time and it set the tome for many reactions and the reception the now regarded legendary story writer got during the post independence era in India.

Produced by Panache Media, the play tells the story of Manto played by Shekhar Suman and his meeting with an Indian journalist Wazeera played by Suchitra Krishnamoorti who travels to Pakistan to interview the writer who was known to be ahead of his times. After just gaining independence from the British Raj, India during the 1950s was still a nation bubbling with scars of partition yet discovering its path. During this time, Wazeera an Indian journalists decides to bring the story behind Manto's characters to the public.

While Manto continues to be revered far and wide even today, very little is known about Wazira and the play effectively brings about an undiscovered side of the acclaimed poet's life. One of Manto's most legendary stories -- Toba Tek Singh is also a part of the storyline.

For a play with such depth and character it is of utmost importance to have artists who can convincingly bring the same pathos, emotions and turmoil on the stage. And with Shekhar Suman and Suchitra Krishnamoorti at helm the play has already nailed that part.

Do watch out for an in depth and intriguing look into the life of Manto.
