Playhouse 1960 presents OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS

By: Sep. 21, 2017

Playhouse 1960 is opening its 2017 - 2018 Main Stage Season with Joe DePietro's Over the River and Through the Woods. The production runs September 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30, 2017 @ 8:00 pm and October 1, 2017 @ 3:00 pm. This is the script of a play about the relationship between Nick, a young man, and all four of his grandparents.

It is laugh-out-loud funny in many places, but you'll also be wiping a tear from your eye more than once. The basic situation is this: Nick is an up-and-coming executive who lives and works in New York City. His parents have retired and moved to Florida; his sister has married and moved to California; and the only family he has living nearby is his four grandparents who live in Hoboken, New Jersey.

They are a colorful group of oldsters; alternating between loving, stubborn, caring, maddening, irritating, and just plain adorable. The show opens with Nick announcing that he's been offered a promotion which will call for him to transfer to Seattle. The grandparents don't want him to go, so they get the idea that if Nick found a girlfriend, he'd settle down, get married, and stay in New York; and they begin to plot the "perfect" romance for the unsuspecting Nick. A funny, funny show about the true meaning of family.
