Da Camera Finishes Season With DIANNE REEVES, 6/1

Da Camera of Houston is proud to present celebrated jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves as part of Da Camera's jazz series. The performance closes out the 2017-2018 season and takes place at the Cullen Performance Hall on the University of Houston campus on Friday, June 1, 2018, at 8 PM.

A preeminent talent in the world of jazz for more than 30 years, Reeves boasts a limitless repertoire thanks to her unparalleled virtuosity and improvisational prowess. Reeves was born into a musical family- her uncle is bassist Charles Burrell, and her cousin is jazz performer and composer George Duke-and was discovered by trumpeter Clark Terry while performing at a convention with her high school band. After studying classical voice at the University of Colorado, Reeves sang with Stanley Turrentine and Lenny White, and toured with Harry Belafonte before signing with Blue Note Records in 1987.

Since then, she has won five Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Female, most recently for her 2015 album, Beautiful Life, which melded R&B, Latin and pop elements within the framework of 21st-century jazz. She has been awarded honorary doctorates from The Juilliard School and the Berklee College of Music, and in 2018 will receive jazz's highest American honor, the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters award.
