The Broadway Performing Arts Studio presents their inaugural production of Carrie the Musical at The MATCH.

Carrie the Musical is adapted from the Stephen King novel with book by Lawrence D. Cohen, music by Michael Gore and lyrics by Dean Pitchford. Carrie White (Kelsey Perkins) is a misfit. At school, she's an outcast who's bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she's at the mercy of her loving but cruelly over-protective mother Margaret White (Relana Gerami-Luss). But Carrie's just discovered she's got a special power, and if pushed too far, she's not afraid to use it.

Carrie the musical is a dramatic thriller relating the struggle of ones self trying to find their place in society. All humans want to feel accepted and loved no matter their age; child, teen or adult. Through the text and lyrics the characters reveal their inner fears of not fitting in and being considered different from others. With this theme the show becomes a drama, with a dash of supernatural in the form of Carrie's telekinetic powers. The audience identifies with the isolation and fears of the characters and understand the torment Carrie feels in the inevitable climax to the story. The use of repeating musical themes and reprises make the composition of the score akin to an opera utilizing the themes as additional emotional cues for the audience.

The cast includes Jacqueline Vasquez (Sue Snell), David Young (Tommy Ross), Katie Sharp (Chris Hargensen), Alex Rudd (Billy Nolan), Amber Huchton (Freida), Elizabeth Tietz (Norma), Katherine Spence (Helen), Matthew Hailey (George), Ben Hallam (Stokes), Anthony Renteria (Freddy), Sean Jackson (Mr. Stephens) and Emily Robins (Miss Gardner)

Carrie the Musical will be held at The MATCH in midtown located at 3400 Main Street in Houston. Carrie the Musical will run for 3 performances only on July 21 at 7:30 PM and July 22 at 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Tickets range from $15 for students and $20 for Adults. Tickets can be purchased online at www.matchouston.org.

The Broadway Performing Arts Studio was created in order to produce high quality, pre-professional shows, along with providing an integrated acting and voice training curriculum for students of all ages and level. Having previously owned and operated the Bay Area Theatre and Voice Academy for 10 years in League City, owners Relana Gerami-Luss and Benjamin K. Luss moved to New York City this past year where they lived in the heart of Manhattan. Taking the training and knowledge they gained from the New York theatre scene they decided to move back to Houston and open a New Theatre Company.
