Kumu Kahua Theatre Hosts FLIPSTER FLURRY Sketch Comedy Night Tonight

By:

The Kumu Kahua Theatre Dark Night Series presents the world premiere of Flipster Flurry: A Night of Sketch Comedy. Flipster Flurry will be held tonight, July 20, 2013 at 7:30pm and July 21, 2013 at 4:00pm at 46 Merchant Street, in the theatre.

This production was primarily developed by Jordan T. Savusa who, along with Sara Robertson received a scholarship to attend the Second City Summer Intensive at the famed Second City Theatre in Chicago, IL. A percentage of proceeds from this production will be used for travel expenses for Savusa and Robertson to travel to Chicago in August 2013.

Savusa will then travel to Los Angeles in September 2013 to attend The Groundlings School, for which he has also received a scholarship. He attended two of seven sessions at The Groundlings, each lasting six weeks. 'I've already auditioned and have been accepted to continue the third session,' says Jordan, 'but there has been a two-year waiting period to continue.' Savusa completed the second training session in 2011.

Flipster Furry; A Night of Sketch Comedy is a full-length comedic production featuring original pieces written by local comedians and actors Savusa, Scott Fernandez, Sara Robertson, and Jose Ver. Sketches will include a range of humor: absurdity, sarcasm, truth, 'downright sillyness,' and a banjo. Performing alongside the writers are local actors, Britton Adams and Jenn Thomas.

This production is directed by Jordan T. Savusa ? a local actor and comedian, who has performed with Honolulu Theatre for Youth, `?hi`a Productions, and Kumu Kahua Theatre. He has opened for Andy Bumatai, Angelah Johnson, and Damon Wayans.

This event is an example of the art of comedy in its varying forms, written by local playwrights and about local culture. Patronage helps support Hawai`i's Culture and local Arts.

Kumu Kahua Theatre's Dark Night Series was created to offer other theatre groups, playwrights, and performance artists the opportunity to present their work to the community. This series is presented during dark nights, evenings when Kumu Kahua's regular season shows are not being performed. To be part of the Dark Night Series artists must submit a proposal, which is reviewed by the Board of Directors of Kumu Kahua. From these proposals, projects are chosen that Kumu Kahua feels will promote the development of the theatrical arts and benefit local artists. Kumu Kahua sees this as another way to enhance and enrich the cultural diversity and artistic climate of Honolulu.
