Experience the Mystery of KINOLAU at HTY

By:

Experience the Mystery of KINOLAU at HTY ImageSteeped in thousands of years of Hawaiian tradition Kinolau, a limited engagement Hawaiian story telling event, will open at Honolulu Theatre for Youth Friday February 9. Kinolau can be plants and animals, even the clouds and rain, the movement of the lava, the currents of the ocean and air. They are the physical manifestation of the akua, the gods. Come be immersed in the rich cultural stories of our islands through mele and oli. Experience the connection between each and every one of us, our islands, and the kinolau.

Playwright and performer Moses Goods created this play, "to encourage empathy for certain Hawaiian concepts, particularly human beings' relationship and connection to the natural world." Hokulani Holt, a Hawaiian Cultural expert and revered kumu hula says, "Our ancient kupuna were aware of the need to be respectful of the environment. Agrarian societies cannot survive if they don't know every nuance of the environment: soil, plant cycles, wind..."

Featuring Moses Goods, Kealoha Kelekolio, Kapono Na'ili'ili, and Lelea'e Wong. Directed by Moses Goods & Eric Johnson, Set, Prop, Lighting & Projection Design Chesley Cannon , Sound Design & Music Composition Kapono Na'ili'ili.

Kinolau opens Friday February 9 @ 7:00 pm and runs Saturdays February 10 & 17 @ 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm with ASL Interpretation Saturday February 17 @ 4:30 pm and Onstage Workshop February 10 @ 2:30 pm.
