BROOKLYN - The Musical – a powerful and inspiring musical fable Book, music and lyrics by Mark Schoenfeld and Barri McPherson Brooklyn The Musical is a story within a story. On the outside, there is a troupe of street performers who are sharing a story from their lives, creating a show that is both touching and inspiring, drawing the audience into a live theater experience to remember. It is a wondrous sidewalk fairy tale about a young girl searching for fame and the father she never knew. With just one clear voice to hear her, she lands in the city that bears her name, Brooklyn. Lyricist Mark Schoenfeld, born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx projects, became a street performer when Barri McPherson, a friend from his past heard him singing on the street one day and she invited him to come live in her home. Together, the two wrote the beautiful music for Brooklyn, which premiered on Broadway in September 2004.
