Your town stands at a crossroads. A neighbor — desperate and out of options — has struck a dangerous bargain. Now, their fate lies in your hands. In this interactive play presented as a town hall gathering, the audience must choose: mercy or justice? Broadway actor and Dallas legend Liz Mikel plays a lone storyteller who weaves a world through music and magic - part fable, part call-and-response. The future of the town - and the fate of a soul - hang in the balance. This isn't a game. It’s your choice.
NOTE: Throughout the piece there are named townspeople (i.e Sarah, Davey, Doc Humphrey etc.). These are audience members meant to be cast by the MAN in real time. They aren’t required to do anything more than be present as the MAN inhabits their body/character in the storytelling. Others are nameless, but their language is quoted. They require the same level of real time audience casting and physical/vocal embodiment by the MAN.
PLEASE NOTE: The role of MAN has been cast. Seeking UNDERSTUDY for the role of MAN.
UNDERSTUDY will have at least one guaranteed performance.
MAN (short for Everyman), (cast / seeking UNDERSTUDY) - Black; any gender, any age; A storyteller, host, and narrator. Honest and humble - astonishingly vulnerable, generous, and virtuosic - a warm gravitas. Shares their story (or conversation) directly with the audience, a community. At the end of a journey and at its very beginning. Able to own and amplify lyrical and poetic language. Able to lead in songs and call and response with the audience.
From the playwright: “Play MAN with your body and your complete self. Do not play the character as a masculine gendered person if that is not who you are. The play requires yourself to be the self that embodies the story. Invite your unique YOU-ness to the space and make no alterations or adjustments toward the idea of gender beyond the situation of the play.”
