SYNOPSIS: Harvey Fierstein’s newly revised two-act version of Torch Song Trilogy, a seminal work celebrating gay culture and its evolution over the span of the late 1970s and ‘80s that follows the life of Arnold Beckoff, a torch song-singing, Jewish drag queen living in New York City. Told with a likable, human voice, Torch Song follows Arnold’s odyssey through his cynical disillusionment with love to find happiness in New York. All he wants is a husband, a child, and a pair of bunny slippers that fit, but a visit from his overbearing mother reminds him that he needs one thing more than perhaps anything else: respect.

SEEKING:

ARNOLD– 27-35, Male-Presenting, Jewish. Unconventionally attractive; Larger than life, funny, charming, and intelligent; A NYC drag queen who is desperately seeking love. He uses his enormous wit and humor as a shield and has a huge heart. Multiracial Jewish Actors are encouraged to submit for this role.

ED– Mid 30s-Early 40s, Male-Presenting, Any Ethnicity. Bisexual; Handsome, with a disarming boyish charm and innocence; A schoolteacher, traditional, masculine, square; Arnold’s on-again, off-again love and also Laurel’s boyfriend and later ex-husband.

LAUREL– Early-Mid 30s, Female-Presenting, Any Ethnicity. Curious, intelligent yet naive, and open minded; Ed’s girlfriend and later ex-wife. Hopelessly optimistic.

ALAN– 18, Male-Presenting, Any Ethnicity. Arnold’s younger boyfriend; a model, very pretty; youthful and free; a frightened child in hustler’s clothing.

MA– 60s, Female-Presenting, Jewish. A real Jewish mother; feisty and stubborn; Arnold’s ultimate sparring partner. She is traditional to a fault. Multiracial Jewish actors are encouraged to submit for this role.

DAVID– 18+ to play 15, Male-Presenting, Any Ethnicity. Arnold’s foster son; precocious only by way of growing up quickly; sarcastic, wonderfully bright and has an edge to him. He is a survivor.
