Please prepare two legit songs: one up-tempo and one ballad. Songs should be in Rodgers and Hammerstein or Sondheim style. Note that not all performers will be asked for their second song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose.

Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.

Richard Rodgers Award finalist. Original music-theater piece about an American Civil War widow who journeys to Japan in 1879. While there, she falls in love with a renowned Japanese tattoo artist who, by drawing on her entire body and turning her into a work of art, unwittingly puts her life in danger.

Akira:

Japanese man, early - mid 20s. Smart, eager and enthusiastic. A young medical student who serves as an assistant – and sometime lover – to a professor visiting from the United States. Tenor, to G.

President U. S. Grant:

Caucasian man, 50s-60s. Stately and presidential. A general who does not mince words, has seen the hell of war, and has a strong tolerance for bourbon. Baritone.

Ernest:

Caucasian man, mid 30s. Sophisticated, Harvard-educated professor, living abroad. Attractive, rakish. In the expat tradition, he has secrets, and an unusually honed genius. A cynic. Not a traditional, handsome leading man, but charismatic and seductive in his own way. High baritone/baritenor (must be able to easily hit soft Fs and Gs on occasion).
