Please prepare 32 bars of a song, and have a contrasting selection ready if asked. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose. Sides will also be provided at the audition, and will be available at
www.theatrezone-florida.com in advance. Some may be asked to stay for a brief dance audition. Bring appropriate footwear.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE Score: William Finn. Book: Rachel Sheinkin. Mus Dir: Eric Alsford. 1st reh: 11/21/11. Runs 12/1–12/11. Five Equity actor contracts available.

Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

Rona Lisa Peretti:

30–45. Realtor. Former spelling bee champion, returning to moderate the bee. Sweet, loves children, but can be stern when dealing with the Vice Principal. Soprano.

Vice Principal Douglas Panch:

35-50. Returns to the bee as a judge -- after a five-year absence due to an “incident” -- but claims to be in a better place now. Infatuated with Rona Lisa Peretti.

Mitch Mahoney:

21–40, non-Caucasian. Ex-convict who is performing his community service as the “comfort counselor”, who hands out juice-boxes to the losing students. Tenor.

The following characters are age 12; all are played by adults 18+.

Olive Ostrovsky:

A newcomer to competitive spelling. Made friends with her dictionary at a young age, helping her to make it to the competition. Soprano.

Logainne SchwartzandGrubenierre:

Most politically aware speller. Has two overbearing fathers, who are homosexual. Somewhat of a neat freak. Speaks with a lisp. Soprano.

Marcy Park:

Asian American. Speaks six languages, is a member of All-American hockey, a championship rugby player, plays Chopin and Mozart on multiple instruments, sleeps only three hours a night, hides in the bathroom cabinet, and is getting tired of always winning. Attends Catholic school. Is not allowed to cry. Soprano/mezzo.

Chip Tolentino:

Boy Scout. Past champion of the bee. Returns to defend his title, but finds puberty hitting at an inopportune moment. Tenor.

The roles of Leaf Coneybear and William Barfee have been cast.

COMPANY Score: Stephen Sondheim. Book: George Furth. 1st reh: 12/26/11. Runs 1/5 – 1/15/12. Eight Equity actor contracts available.

On the night of his birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state. In vignette after hilarious vignette, we are introduced to “those good and crazy people”, his married friends.

Sarah:

30-45. Crisply critical. Karate-learning. Has issues with food and dieting. Mezzo.

Harry:

35-50. Sarah’s husband. Friendly and affable, but with a drinking problem. Baritone.

Susan:

25-45. Gracious Southern belle who suffers from fainting spells. Soprano/mezzo (might sing legit soprano opening of “Not Getting Married”).

Peter:

30–45. Susan’s husband, former Ivy League. The perfect husband and ex-husband. Baritone.

Jenny:

30-45. Sweet but simultaneously square and wise. Quietly manipulative. Soprano (might sing legit soprano opening of “Not Getting Married”).

David:

30-45. Jenny’s husband. Relaxed, chic, in control. Tenor.

Amy:

25-40. Neurotic, frantic, loving. Gets cold feet on her wedding day. Mezzo.

Paul:

Jewish, 25-40. Amy’s fiancé. Has learned how to put up with her manic spells. Tenor.

Joanne:

45–55. Cynical and very acerbic, funny and demanding. Mezzo.

Larry:

45–55. Joanne’s third husband. Stoic and centered. Tenor.

Marta:

25-35. Hip and vulgar. An intensely “with-it” woman. Loves New York. Mezzo.

Kathy:

30-40. Small-town girl, in need of love. Robert’s on-off girlfriend. Mezzo.

April:

25-35. Naïve flight attendant. A bit air-headed, but adorable. Mezzo.

The role of Robert is cast.


LITTLE WOMEN Music: Jason Howland. Lyrics: Mindi Dickstein. Book: Allan Knee. Mus Dir: Charles Fornara. 1st reh: 2/27/12. Runs 3/8 – 3/18/12. Six Equity actor contracts available.

Follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they grow up in Civil-War America. The beloved story is timeless, and deals with issues as relevant today as when they were written.

Jo:

21–29. Passionate young woman. The story centers around her life. Belt.

Beth:

21-29. Second-youngest sister. The peacemaker; always sees good in everyone. Actress doubles as Rodrigo 2 in Jo’s story. Soprano.

Meg:

21–29. Oldest sister. Yearns for a great life. Actress doubles as Clarissa in Jo’s story. Soprano.

Laurie Laurence:

Man, 21–29. The boy next door. Loves Jo dearly, but is rejected. Actor doubles as Rodrigo in Jo’s story. Tenor.

John Brooke:

21-30. Laurie’s tutor. Rather stiff, but capable of showing emotion. Marries Meg. Actor doubles as Braxton in Jo’s story. Baritone/tenor.

Professor Bhaer:

German man, 30-45. A professor who is quite proper. Falls in love with Jo. German accent needed. Baritone.

Mr. Laurence:

55-70. Laurie’s grandfather. Stiff and stern; eventually shows his softer side. Actor doubles as the Knight in Jo’s story. Baritone.

Aunt March:

45-65. Formidable, overbearing matron; great-aunt of the sisters. Very rich and cares greatly about society, but -- in a stiff way -- loves her family. Actress doubles as Mrs. Kirk, who runs the boarding house. Mezzo.

The roles of Marmee and Amy are cast.

The Boy Friend Book/Music/Lyrics: Sandy Wilson. 1st reh: 4/23/12. Runs 5/3 – 5/13/12. Seven Equity actor contracts available.

Set in the French Riviera. Polly, an English heiress attending Mme. Dubonnet’s Finishing School, falls in love with Tony, a delivery boy. Recalling her father’s warning to beware of fortune-seekers, she poses as a working girl … unaware that Tony is, in fact, the missing son of the wealthy Lord Brockhurst.

Polly Browne:

21-29. Demure, motherless heiress. Worries that boys will only be interested in her money. British accent. Tap dancing a plus. Legit soprano.

Tony Brockhurst:

21-29. Attractive, secretly wealthy suitor. British accent. Tap dancing a plus. Legit tenor.

Bobby Van Husen:

American, 21-29. Dapper playboy, good looking student. Baritone.

Hortense:

21–45. Snobby, chic maid at Mme. Dubonnet’s school. French accent. Mezzo.

Maisie:

21-29. Polly’s vivacious classmate, a flirt and a “madcap”. British accent. Tap dancing a plus. Mezzo.

Percival Browne:

40-55. Polly’s father, a stodgy millionaire. British accent. High baritone.

Lord Brockhurst:

50-65. Frisky, jolly old gentleman, an English blue-blood. British accent. Baritone.

Lady Brockhurst:

45-65. Stuffy. Keeps a tight leash on her husband, with good reason. British accent. Non-singing.

Mme. Dubonnet:

40-50. Intuitive, caring and beautiful headmistress of the school. French accent. Legit Mezzo.

Dulcie and Nancy:

21-29. Young ladies at finishing school. British accent. Tap dancing a plus. Mezzos.

Pierre and Marcel:

21-29. Young suitors. French accents. Baritone. Tap dancing a plus.
