TOMMY
About the Play
After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father at the age of 4, Tommy is traumatized into catatonia, and as the boy grows, he suffers abuse at the hands of his sadistic relatives and neighbors. As an adolescent, he’s discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball. When his mother finally breaks through his catatonia, Tommy becomes an international pinball superstar.

THE HAWKER Male, 20s-50s. Baritone. An offensive street hustler. The Gypsy’s pimp.

A HARMONICA PLAYER Male or Female, 20s-50s. The Hawker’s sidekick who plays the Harmonica.

THE SPECIALIST Male, 30s-50s. Baritone. A doctor who has new theories on how to cure Tommy.

LOVER Male, 20s. Tenor. Mrs. Walker’s Boyfriend. Killed by Captain Walker.

MRS. SIMPSON/KEVIN’S MOTHER/SPECIALIST ASSISTANT Ensemble 20s-30s. Pop Mezzo. Role will double as the mother of Sally and Kevin as well as play other ensemble roles.

ENSEMBLE DANCERS WHO SING and SINGERS WHO DANCE. Male and female dancers with strong rock singing voices and to play various roles in the ensemble. Should sing well enough to possibly cover principal roles.
