Set in South Side Chicago, 1955, in a building about to be condemned.

Alberta:

AVAILABLE ROLE. African American, 30s. A spinster. Moody. Lonely. World-weary. Touchy. A biting sense of humor. Opinionated and self-possessed. Attractive and elegant. Sweet. A great talent for writing funeral sermons.

Weedy:

AVAILABLE ROLE. African American woman, 70s. Highly, overbearingly religious. Salty-tongued. Irascible. Manipulative and argumentative.

Doc:

AVAILABLE ROLE. African American man, 50s-60s. A dandy. Sharp dresser of another era. A numbers-playing gambler. Smooth. Manipulative. Weedy’s brother.

Blind Jordan:

CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. African American man, 30s. Blind. Plays guitar. A street singer. Mysterious visitor. Secretive. Nurturing and strong-willed.

Set in NYC, in the Bowery studio of Mark Rothko, 1960.

Ken:

Caucasian, 20s. Protégé and assistant of Rothko. Cool. Subtle. Bright. Ambitious. Smart.
