Those auditioning for the role of Helen will participate in improvisation exercises (with the actress who has been cast as Annie Sullivan). A sign-language interpreter will be provided. Theatre’s statement: “Bay Street Theatre encourages actors with hearing impairments to audition.”
Sides will be provided one hour before the audition, at the Theatre, for all other roles. Visually-impaired performers may request an advance copy of sides at the Theatre’s box office from 11 AM – 6 PM on Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8.

Note: No housing/per diem are available to out-of-area performers (i.e. those with residences more than 50 miles from the Theatre).
Kate Keller:
AVAILABLE. 30s-40s. Helen Keller’s mother. Strong, proud, caring, loving, principled.
Keller:
AVALABLE. 40s-50s. Helen’s father. Reserved, prone to rigidity. Ultimately, loving.
Helen Keller:
AVAILABLE. Seeking actress age 12+ who can believably play a young girl of approx. 10 years of age. Actress must be comfortable playing a blind and deaf child, and not afraid of highly physical activity.
Aunt Ev:
AVAILABLE. 60s-70s. Helen’s doting, loving aunt.
The following two roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.
James:
CAST. 20s. Keller’s son, Kate’s stepson. Somewhat unfulfilled. Searching and, initially, angry. Actor also playsDoctor and Anagnos.
Annie Sullivan:
CAST. 20s. Helen’s uncompromising, forthright committed teacher. Character is sight-impaired.
