Please prepare a brief contemporary monologue. Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Dark comedy about love, loss and human connection.

Seeking (all roles are available unless otherwise specified):

Ben Lyons:

60-75. Angry. Successful businessman, now dying. Still capable of volcanic rage. His warmest feelings seem to be reserved for his daughter. His disdain for his son is matched by his hostility toward his wife, whom he nonetheless needs and has probably always loved.

Rita Lyons:

58-75. Has the kind of charm that masks a deep well of venom. Smiles while she eviscerates. May not have been “to the manner born”, but has learned what to wear and how to speak (quite well). Still sexually viable and terrified of being alone, she is desperate to find some new happiness.

Lisa:

30-40. Ben and Rita’s daughter. Recovering alcoholic, struggling to free herself from the ties of an abusive marriage. Struggles vainly to be sunny. She fails. When she feels threatened, Lisa is capable of genuine ferocity.

Nurse (Jeanette):

25-40. While she appears, at first, to be quiet, efficient and dutiful, she later reveals herself to be brassy, bossy and even borderline abusive. She is also a philosopher of the most homespun nature.

The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.

Curtis:

CAST. 28-38. Ben and Rita’s son. Profoundly lonely. Curtis is gay, but afraid of any real connection. A writer, he is well spoken and highly intelligent.

Brian:

CAST. 28-35. Handsome, glib, real estate broker. Sexy and charming. His homosexuality should come as a surprise. When he’s cornered, his ferocity should be genuinely frightening.
