[BERTIE] Male-identified, Age late 30s, Caucasian. Duke of York and later King George VI. Lives in a world of the highest status, at times prickly, with an acute sensitivity and shyness that makes him very empathetic. Hyper-aware of his perceived unsuitability to ascend to the throne, he can be paralyzed by his stammer, which worsens in time of stress. A royal bearing is essential.
[LIONEL LOGUE] Male-identified, Age 40s - late 50s, Caucasian. Middle-class Australian speech therapist who longs to be a proper actor in London, but it is a failed ambition. Highly intuitive in his work, as much psychologist as speech therapist. Unimpressed with royal titles, he can appear impertinent to Bertie and Elizabeth, but underneath is a deeply caring man. Married to Myrtle, who sacrifices much for his dreams. A complicated man.
[ELIZABETH] Female-identified, Age mid-30s, Caucasian. Bertie’s wife, the Duchess of York. A beautiful English rose. Acerbic, independent and whip-smart. Very loyal and nurturing toward Bertie. Hight status.
The following roles have been CAST:
[COSMO LANG] Male-identified, Age 70s, Caucasian. The Archbishop of Canterbury. A tall, unctuous churchman with a high, domed, balding head and the perpetual expression of moral superiority. Can be cunning and cool. Ambitious. CAST
[MYRTLE LOGUE] Female-identified, Age mid 40s, Caucasian. Lionel's Australian wife. Lower middle class. Desperately homesick for Australia but gives into her husband’s needs for happiness. At times patient and strong as a saint; at other times in despair. CAST [WINSTON CHURCHILL] Male-identified. Age Early 60s, Caucasian. British statesman. A portly, driven politician. A vocal opponent to the rise of fascism, with a dry sense of humor. Has serious concerns for England's future. CAST, SEEKING POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS
[DAVID] (and others as cast) Male-identified. Age mid to late 40s, Caucasian. Arrogant, sun-kissed playboy. Plays and looks the role of Prince Charming, but irresponsible with a cruel streak. Abdicates his responsibility to the throne in order to marry the American divorcee Wallis Simpson, throwing Britain into political turmoil. Supports Hitler and the Nazi cause. CAST
[KING GEORGE V] (and others as cast) Male-identified. Age late 60s, Caucasian. King of England. Barrel-chested, commanding Naval man. Not warm or paternal. Can be a bit of a bully. Proud. Kingly, for better and for worse. CAST [STANLEY BALDWIN] (and others as cast, u/s Lang) Male-identified, Age 60s to 70s, Caucasian. Prime Minister of England and conservative Party politician. Leader of the British government. CAST
