Breakdown
Rosy Perch
18-late 20s, but must play 16. Daughter of Bill and Susan. Off-balance, gawky and shy, but decidedly not a victim: has a manic energy and can be a real player when necessary. Perceptive about weaknesses of others. Devoted to her parents and desperately wants things as they were. Because of her acne, unused to attention from men.
The following roles have been CAST. Actors will be considered for possible replacements if needed.
Bill Perch
40-60. A proud dentist and current resident at The Jacksonian Motel. Separated from Susan and father of Rosy, he’s lost control of his family and practice. Wants to repair both, but can’t seem to keep things from going further downhill. Has a buried temper, but intent on avoiding pain, for himself and others. ROLE CAST
Eva White
30-45. Waitress and maid at The Jacksonian Motel. A high school drop-out, beaten down but full of fire. Talkative, blunt, harsh, passionately racist. Desperate to get married, she’s looking for a fairy-tale ending, and might be strong enough to force it into being. Has her eyes set on Fred. ROLE CAST
Fred Weber
35-50. Bartender at The Jacksonian Motel. Charming, manipulative, but also downright wacky, a womanizer and a vicious thug with a checkered background, including time as a carny. Considers himself “a man with appeal,” and certainly has an eccentric flair. Has made promises to Eva in exchange for an alibi. Menacing but also seriously peculiar, he believes wholeheartedly in his own righteousness. ROLE CAST
Susan Perch
40-60. Bill Perch’s wife. Mother of Rosy. An upper-middle-class lady, with an instinct for making things more beautiful than they are. Subject to violent and sudden mood swings. Proper, but can be provocative, even barbed. Still somewhat in love with Bill, she is filing for divorce, furious that he allowed her doctor to perform a hysterectomy, a betrayal she thinks she may never recover from. ROLE CAST
