The fantastical journey of a young doctor battling the absurdities of the medical world … with music and clowns! Mostly taking place in the corridors of medicine, the story jousts with urban rats, bums, blood, guns and the nature of sons.

Seeking:

Dr. Sam Cutter, MD:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 25 – 55/60. He’s not a traditional hero, and his triumphs here are pretty small ones. But he’s clearly very smart. Enjoys the “miracles” of science. Funny. Maybe too compassionate, and definitely too moral. Tilts at too many windmills. The audience must admire, like and root for him, like most heroes. Becomes quite ill as the play progresses. Actor also plays the character (Young Sammy Cutter) at about age 13. Non-singing.

Dr. Harry Cutter, MD / Others:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 45-60s, both in his prime and older. Actor also plays various other rigid authoritarian men (“pricks” to some), including The Chief of Service (Surgery), The Hospital Administrator, A Surgical Attending (and expert surgeon) and Dr. Ringmaster (an alpha-clown judge). Baritone; sings six songs.

The following roles/tracks are cast (i.e. offers accepted). Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.

Loopy:

CAST. A clown and sidekick. Role requires some vaudevillian skills and an anarchic spirit. Non-singing.

Young Male Track:

CAST. Actor plays characters that are both believably naïve and smarmy at times. Singing (tenor) track.

Older Male Track:

CAST. Actor plays characters ranging from venerable to British to indigent to criminal-from-New- Jersey. Non-singing track.

Mature Female Track:

CAST. Excellent British accent and French accent required. Track requires a sense of the absurd. Actor plays characters including a traditional mom and an indigent. Singing track.

Young Female Track:

CAST. Characters include an absurdist nurse, as well as other, “standard” hospital staff. Also a very pregnant patient. Also a patient who just waited too long to get to the doctor. Non-singing track.
