BREAKDOWN

For CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME:

Christopher Boone: Male, Adult Actor 18+ to play 15. Any ethnicity. A brilliant, young mathematician and amateur detective. He has a unique perception of the world, notices things in minute detail, and has difficulty understanding social and emotional cues. From a diagnostic point of view, he is probably on the autism spectrum and exhibits some behavior that might be characterized as having Asperger’s Syndrome. Actors on the autism spectrum encouraged to apply.

Siobhan: Female, Late 20s-40s. Any ethnicity. Teacher and mentor, the only person in Christopher's life with an understanding of his situation. She often serves as the narrator of Christopher's story and his feelings. English, Irish, Welsh or Scottish accent

Judy Boone: Female, mid 30s-early 50s. Any ethnicity. Christopher's mother, estranged from her husband Ed, a working class woman with a tough exterior, blames herself for her inability to copy with Christopher effectively. Loving, yet impatient, she has felt very alone in her situation with Christopher, and it frustrates her to the absolute point of desperation.


For 9 TO 5:

Violet, 40+ (Alto) Any ethnicity. Strong, Ambitious. The company’s Head Secretary; she is smart and efficient, a single, working mom; she stands up for what she believes in. Hart’s right-hand woman. Frustrated but not bitter. Career-hopeful and quick witted.

Doralee, 20+ (Soprano, high belt) Any ethnicity. Spirited country gal, warm and personable. Don’t underestimate her Barbie doll appearance - she is proof there is more to a woman than her looks. Spitfire with a heart of gold.

Judy, 30+ (Soprano, high belt) Any ethnicity. Meek & quiet, proper. She’s the new girl, insecure but determined and hopeful; she has been burned by her ex-husband's affairs.

Hart, 40+ (Baritone) Any ethnicity. The notorious boss, smarmy, pompous, his own biggest fan. He can fool you with his temporary charm but soon shows his arrogant, self-absorbed attitude.

Dwayne, 25-35 (Tenor) Any ethnicity. Doralee’s husband, handsome, he is supportive of Doralee’s professional pursuits.

Joe, 25-30 (High Baritone) Any ethnicity. A handsome young, office accountant, genuine & nice, smitten with Violet and won’t take no for an answer
