Seeking the following only:
KJ (Man, 30). A UVM drop out --derailed by a breakdown--who has been living with his mom in small town Vermont since dropping out. Genuinely enthusiastic about art, philosophy, and music, and has got a bit of hippie-ness to him. Has an underlying vulnerability masked by a shell of zen-like calm, an occasional playfulness, and a decent amount of anger and ironic detachment. His love for Jasper is one of his primary anchors in the world, though it’s rarely showy or demonstrative. Some singing involved, but no training required.
JASPER (Man, 31). A high school drop out who left his hometown in New Hampshire to live on the streets in small town Vermont. Self-important and a little cocky. Has an edge, bordering on a jaded surliness, but also the heart of a poet; he’s well read and cultured in specific areas, fancies himself a young Bukowski and is writing a passionate novel. Beneath his bravado and performed detachment, Jasper is driven by deep empathy and love for his friend KJ; they take care of each other. Actor must play guitar. Some singing involved, but no training required.
EVAN SHELMERDINE (Male, 17 (seeking actor 17+ to play this age)). Evan is an employee at the local coffee shop. Becomes a kind of protege to KJ and Jasper. He's in a constant state of humiliation -- vulnerable, exposed, and awkward – but has a backbone and sticks up for himself when he has to. Life for Evan is full of firsts and education—about women, drugs, literature, and music—though he’s doing his best to keep his wide-eyed nature in check in front of his newfound tutors. Some guitar playing and singing involved, but no training required; actors who don’t play guitar but are open to learning should feel free to submit.
