CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
- [NARRATOR/MYSTERIOUS MAN] Character is Male, 50s-60s, any ethnicity. Baritone. The NARRATOR is objective, intellectual, and good-natured. The MYSTERIOUS MAN is whimsical and untouchable but hides a deep pain.
- [THE BAKER] Character is Male, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Baritone. Well-meaning and neurotic, with a big heart. Always has good intentions.
- [JACK/CINDERELLA’S FATHER] Character is Male, 18+ to play younger, any ethnicity. Tenor. JACK is a constant daydreamer and the reluctant provider for his family. CINDERELLA’S FATHER is willfully ignorant. No solo singing.
- [CINDERELLA’S PRINCE/WOLF] Characters are Male, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Baritone. THE PRINCE is in love with love...and himself. He only wants what he can’t have. THE WOLF is a predator. Thinks he’s a rockstar.
- [RAPUNZEL’S PRINCE/STEWARD] Character is Male, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Baritone. Rapunzel’s Prince is the younger prince. Less is expected from him. A hopeless romantic who’s in love with love. The STEWARD is loyal to a fault. No solo singing.
- [CINDERELLA] Character is Female, 20s, any ethnicity. Soprano/Light Mezzo. Earnest and vulnerable. She’s been taken for granted long enough and is ready to stand up for herself.
- [THE WITCH] Character is Female, 40s-50s, any ethnicity. Mezzo with belt. She has her own moral code and is unbothered by society’s expectations. More compassionate than she’ll ever let on.
- [THE BAKER’S WIFE] Character is Female, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Mezzo. She often puts the needs of those around her before her own. She’s hardworking and very perceptive.
- [LITTLE RED/LUCINDA] Character is Female, 18+ to play younger, any ethnicity. Mezzo with high belt. LITTLE RED is a curious and naive young girl. She has to grow up quicker than expected. Possesses strong comedic timing. LUCINDA is one of Cinderella’s shallow stepsisters, a bully. Must have strong comedic timing.
- [RAPUNZEL/FLORINDA/CINDERLLA’S MOTHER] Character is Female, 20s-30’s, any ethnicity. Soprano. RAPUNZEL has spent her entire life being protected from the world. Her newfound independence is unkind to her. FLORINDA is one of Cinderella’s shallow stepsisters, a bully. Must have strong comedic timing. CINDERELLA’S MOTHER is the ghostly figure of the kind mother that Cinderella knew when she was a child.
- [JACK’S MOTHER/GRANNY] Character is Female, 40s-60s, any ethnicity. Alto or Mezzo. JACK’S MOTHER is a single mother left by her husband. She loves her son but is run ragged by the realities of life. GRANNY is the salt of the earth.
- [CINDERELLA’S STEPMOTHER/GIANT] Character is Female, 40s-50s, any ethnicity. Alto or Mezzo. CINDERELLA’S STEPMOTHER is the ultimate social climber. Cruel and materialistic. The GIANT was once a warm and compassionate woman who was betrayed and is looking for revenge.

- [JACK WORTHING aka EARNEST] Character is Male, 25–35, any ethnicity. Presents as a polite and respectable British upper-class gentleman, despite having no real knowledge of his parentage. Leads a double life between the country and the city, carefully maintaining distinct identities. His polished, sometimes socially awkward composure is tested when these worlds begin to overlap.
- [ALGERNON MONCRIEFF] Character is Male, 25–35, any ethnicity. Charming, witty, and self-indulgent. An idle bachelor more interested in pleasure, gossip, and avoiding obligations than matters of responsibility or marriage. Meddles in his friend’s life for sport, though he develops a genuine romantic interest that complicates his actions.
- [GWENDOLEN FAIRFAX] Character is Female, 20–35, any ethnicity. Poised, stylish, and self-assured, with a strong sense of taste and conviction. Deeply invested in the ideals of high British society, particularly in matters of love and identity. Clear in her desires and unwavering in her pursuit of them.

He’s a fumbler through life, failing to live up to the expectations of his thug father, chasing after a girl who he does not know how to talk to. Does not speak in a Russian accent. Possesses strong comedic timing.
- [DMITRI] Character is Male, 25, any ethnicity. Russian, living in Russia after the fall of the Berlin Wall. An opportunist struggling to adapt to a new world order where his dreams of being KGB are no longer possible. Embraces change, but is ultimately overcome by it. Does not speak in a Russian accent. Possesses strong comedic timing.
- [KATYA] Character is Female, 30s, any ethnicity. Russian, living in Russia after the fall of the Berlin Wall. She is a singer who has come back to Russia after living in the US. A private person with shame about her past. Does not speak in a Russian accent.

- [KYRIE] Character portrayed as male, early 20s, Black. Recently released from a wrongful incarceration where he spent a considerable amount of time in solitary confinement. An intelligent and thoughtful soul, Kyrie currently finds himself lost and adrift, unable to process the trauma he has survived.
- [DAMIAN] Character portrayed as male, early 20s, Black. Damian is a loving friend who is determined to build a kind and meaningful world for himself and his family as he steps into fatherhood. Though he wouldn’t necessarily consider himself the bravest or the toughest, he works as a security guard, doing his best to provide for himself and his future family.
- [ZADIE] Character portrayed as female, early 20s, Black. Smart, playful, vibrant, and unexpectedly pregnant. Zadie is loving, nurturing, and deeply empathetic with her friends. Working at Trader Joe’s, she’s uncertain of who she wants to be and how she wants to be as she progresses into parenthood and adulthood.

- [LETITIA] Female, 20s. A plucky ingénue.
- [DORICOURT] Male, 20s - 30s. There isn't a male word for ingenue, is there? He's that guy – clever, suave, handsome, well-liked. The adult, 18th century equivalent of the football captain who's also valedictorian.
- [MATTHEW MANWORE] Male, late 30s – early 40s. In one incarnation, a cad. In the other, a tired, overworked husband. Who’s maybe also a bit of a cad.
- [DENNIS DUNDER] Male, 20s-40s. Foppish. Beta. Befuddled.
- [HANNAH] Female, late 30s – early 40s. Used to be an ingenue. Now she’s too old, too observant, too acerbic. She’s seen some shit and she’s ready to talk about it. She’s also ready to have some fun.
- [MR. HARDY] Male, 50s-70s. Letitia's father. An outwardly grumpy, secretly sentimental old dad. Doubles as THOMAS COWLEY, Hannah’s oblivious husband.
- [MRS. RACKET] Female, 50s. A wise gossip / Mrs. Malaprop type in one incarnation, sweet and wise and maternal in the other. Doubles as MOTHER COWLEY, Hannah’s wise mother.
