BREAKDOWN

EDWARD/THOMAS
Late 20’s. Handsome, callow, sexually ambiguous. He starts out as a pensive, affable, annoyingly verbose faux-intellectual twit and transforms into an impossibly brilliant, cunning, elegantly homicidal character.

PATRICIA HIGHSMITH
60-70. An older woman with distinct vestiges of earlier beauty. She is ill, and now faces the end of her life. A renowned author, she is probably best known for The Talented Mr. Ripley book series. An acerbic contrarian, crotchety, bigoted. Often very funny with a razor sharp wit.

Patricia Highsmith (the writer of The Talented Mr. Ripley) lives the life of a hermit in the Swiss Alps. The macabre genius has withdrawn from the world, facing the end of her life, but then a young emissary from her publisher intrudes into her world, demanding a contract for one more devastatingly brilliant book.
